Meet Your Candidate
Sal Sorrento immigrated from Italy at a very young age with his family that chose to lay down their roots in downtown St. Catharines. Sal’s parents instilled the value of hard work into him at an early age.
Sal earned two undergraduate degrees from Brock University followed by achieving a Master’s of Science in Education, Counselling at Niagara University.
Sal has dedicated his life to serving the people of St. Catharines through his many volunteer positions and professionally as an Outreach worker helping people in need. His community service includes Out of the Cold Program at his church, the T’Amo festival, Royal Henley Regattas, Folk Arts and Grape and Wine Festivals as well as being a co-Founder of the Facer Street Festival. He served on the Board of Directors for the Niagara Multicultural Center for 12 years and was Chair for 5 of those years.
Sal is currently a two-term City Councillor representing St. George’s Ward. During his time on council, Sal has been an assertive community advocate for seniors, affordable housing, mental health and is known for his relentless pursuit of improving Long Term Care. He has been a devoted supporter of local businesses through the Facer District Merchant and Residents Association and was the city-appointed representative for the St. Catharines Downtown Association BIA.
